SAI Wine Appreciation Course

Wine Made Easy a simple, friendly introduction to wine for everyone.

The SAI Wine Appreciation Course is India’s most accessible and beginner-friendly introduction to the world of wine. Designed by the Sommeliers Association of India, this course helps enthusiasts, students, hospitality professionals, and curious learners build confidence step by step, no prior knowledge required.

Across 10 short, engaging modules, you’ll discover how wine is made, how to taste and describe flavours, how to understand different styles of wine, how to read labels, how to pair wine with food, and how to choose and enjoy wine in everyday life. Every lesson is visual, simple, and designed to remove the intimidation often associated with wine.

The course and final exam are completely free.
Learners who complete the exam can unlock the official SAI Wine Appreciation Certificate and receive the SAI Lapel Pin shipped to their address by becoming a member. Membership also opens the door to all future SAI courses, educational resources, the Job Board, the Travel Board, and exclusive member benefits.

Module 1: Welcome to the World of Wine
This short introduction helps you feel comfortable and confident before starting the course. You’ll learn what wine really is, why it doesn’t need to feel intimidating, and how this course will guide you step-by-step in the simplest way possible.

Module 2: The 5 Flavours You Can Taste in Wine

Module 3: The 4 Main Types of Wine
Learn the difference between red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines. This module explains each style in one sentence, with simple examples and easy food pairings.

Module 4: How to Taste Wine in 3 Steps
Wine tasting doesn’t need to be complicated. This module teaches you the simplest method used worldwide: look, smell, sip.

Module 5: How to Read a Wine Label
Wine labels can look confusing, but you only need five important pieces of information. This module teaches you how to read a bottle confidently anywhere in the world.

Module 6: The 5 Most Common Grapes
In this module, you’ll learn the five most familiar grape varieties that appear on most wine lists. Understanding these grapes helps you choose wine with ease.

Module 7: Basic Wine Service at Home
Learn how to open, pour, and serve wine confidently at home. No special tools or knowledge required.

Module 8: Food Pairing Made Easy
Food and wine pairing becomes effortless when you understand one simple rule: light with light, bold with bold. This module uses everyday Indian foods as examples.

Module 9: Storing & Buying Wine
You don’t need a cellar or special equipment to store wine properly. This module shows you how easy it is.

Module 10: Final Recap & Exam
Review all the key learnings from the course and take your final quiz to earn the official SAI Wine Enthusiast Certificate.
